It's 3:30 a.m. and you're fast asleep - at least you were.

On that fateful night in 1999 I lay in bed listening to my husband try to handle our unhappy daughter and change her dirty crib. She was screaming while he struggled with the crib sheets and bumper.

I quietly listened to the drama unfolding in the next room. Then all of a sudden I heard RIP, POP, POP, POP! "HONEY?! Did we really need that bumper thing?"

In his rush to clean up the crib and get our daughter back to sleep my poor husband tried to pull out the entire mattress, sheets and all, without first removing the bumper. By the time I walked into the room the damage was done. There he stood, bumper carcass in one hand, screaming child in the other and her crib worse than when he found it. I decided then and there, "There must be a better way!"
